Marion spotted this in our garden while we were motoring around with the grandkids... The antennae were a rufous/reddy colour. We've a small BC insect book, but there are 2000 moths in BC! The closest I've found is Big Poplar Sphinx, but what little we could see of the lower wings, didn't have any red or blue...

Ive seen them before too. This and one other moth which is similar Ive seen. Will share photos when I find them. Beautiful creature.

Thanks for the link, Janne. Clearly not a "big poplar". It seems to be a One-eyed Sphinx... Lower wings folded back like that, we couldn't see the "eyes", but the pattern on the head and upper wings looks good. The range seems to be good... Gord, I'd love to see the photos, particularly the "other" moth.
