Hello Birders
On the east side of Banford Rd, just south of Prairie Central, there was a single Long-billed Curlew in one of the small puddles. The bird was seen at 3:50 this afternoon.

I checked for this guy yesterday morning but no luck in several promising fields I checked.
This morning I was up early again and decided to have another try. Persistance paid off as I spotted it right where Jason saw it on the 21st. As a bonus, there were six Black-bellied Plovers! Pictures to come.
When I left, the plovers were scared off but the curlew circled around and came back and is in the corner of Prairie Central and Banford Rd in the dirt field. Amazing bird! Last time I saw one was in 2000.

Thanks guys for the information. I checked yesterday as well with no luck but checked twice today and the first time I didn't see him but the second time I did just as I was about to go home. Such an amazing bird, a lifer for me as well and in the same spot as Gord said. I saw him at 10:40 so he should still be there. I didn't see the Plovers however.

Tried Yesterday after work, no luck. Marion and I tryed this afternoon between 5:30 - 6:00. Had a nice drive down Banford and came back pulled off and got it in about 30 seconds. Amazing how easy it is, when you know what you're looking for and have a reliable location to go on... Thanks all for the up-dates. ;D On the other hand we were amazed at how it would seem to disappear if you took your eyes off it for a second. Got pix thru the scope.

Forgot to add a thank you to Jason for relocating the curlew (assuming it is the same bird Brianm found earlier; who also deserves a thanks for the first sighting) so we could see it.
Today I saw three small sandpipers fly over in east Chilliwack. I could not tell the species, but probably Least Sandpiper. Check little puddles in fields carefully, the little guys are around now too. A casual glance might easily miss them as they're small and blend right in.
