Hi all: Not to discourage anyone from trying for the Hawk Owl, I have just been told, ( 4:00 p.m. ), that the bird was seen yesterday- Tuesday. Cheers, Thor

Hi all: Yesterday, I reported that at least 5 birders, including myself, tried for the N. Hawk Owl, in Abbotsford, that was originally seen, and photographed, by Frogprincess on November 26th. We did not see the bird. After I reported this, I received an e-mail saying that the bird had been sighted by 2 birders on Tuesday, December 2nd. The e-mail did not originate from the birders who had reportedly seen the bird, but, by a third party. On this basis, I reported to this list serve and three others. I have just learned that this report to me was erroneous, although, not intentional. I must apologize to Fraser Valley birders, and hope no one tried for the bird today, based on this report. It is interesting, however, how many validated reports are coming in this season for N. Hawk Owls. My friend, Jack Delair, who operates an organic farm at the Hope Airport, tells me there is a significant increase in the number of voles he sees on his farm; so, perhaps, we should all be keeping an eye out for this beautiful owl visitor from the north. Cheers, Thor

Not a problem, Thor.
It was such a beautiful afternoon I decided to hike up there whatever. I would have gone regardless of your report.
There were two other birders at the location, but despite checking many treetops we didn't see the owl. I went over to the next clearing area to the south, and also checked an open field I remembered was to the south off the trail further down the hill, but it is all grown up with alder saplings now.
There is a fairly large old pasture area on the SW slope further down, which I would guess would be suitable habitat and has clumps of trees scattered around in it, but I didn't have time to go that far before dark.
There was a gorgeous sunset.
