Ed, great sighting on the Dunlin! And yes, sounds like the same Rough-legged Hawk you describe. Dark phases are pretty rare so it has to be the same bird.
Murray, this guy hunts over a little triangle of 'old field' habitat (weedy with tall grass) which is preferred habitat it seems. These guys are becoming scarce as this kind of habitat becomes less and less common. I used to get them annualy on my Christmas Bird Count in Chilliwack but now it's been over five years since the last sighting. I agree, even then I would find them in the same area year after year.
As for the sighting list, there was a White-throated Sparrow at my parent's feeder this wet morning.

Today I finally found a Western Gull after only seeing a couple promising specimens that turned out to be hybrids. This was a third winter bird in the pond across from the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve. Too bad it was a bit far out as a great bird to get a photo off.

Hi all: Yesterday afternoon on Thacker Marsh was a Eurasian Widgeon. Today, same place several American Dippers; also along Sucker Creek. Belted Kingfisher on the marsh. At Kawkawa Lake, a Common Loon, and a raft of Common Mergansers. Thor

A very wet and bedraggled American Kestrel was sitting on some utility wires in the Agassiz farmfields today. He was eating what may have been a shrew.

Murray, interesting find!! Ive never seen one in among the gull flocks. It would be my luck to see one and to get exciting thinking I had a Franklin's Gull for a moment!
Added John's Eurasian Collared-Doves (great find!!) Peregrine Falcon from when I saw Ed on Tuesday, the Red Crossbills from Garrison Crossing when I was looking for the White-breasted Nuthatch and the sightings provided here.
Perhaps the Bald Eagle Festival will produce a few new birds!

Gord, a few years back ( this is starting to sound like a theme ) a birder was scanning a winter gull flock in Delta near 72 st. and 36 ave. when he or she noticed one of the small gulls had red legs and feet. It turned out to be a Black-headed, which was a lifer for me and many other Vancouver area birders. So you're right it always pays to check them out if you have an opportunity. Unfortunately, in our modern, busy world, traffic often does'nt allow that. Murray

Hello Birders
There was a Townsend's Warbler in our yard, two days ago, and again today.

Yesterday afternoon there were large numbers of waterfowl on the main pond at Willband, including several species not shown on the November list -- Northern Pintail, Gadwall, Barrow's Goldeneye and Canvasback.

Haven't posted here in quite a while, but thought you might be interested to hear there was a Golden Eagle at Harrison Mills today. I got a few photos of it.

Good to hear from you Terri! Nice find on the Golden Eagle. Now and then one can be found scavenging with the Bald Eagles. Jason, great November bird a Townsend's Warbler is! Good work. Stan, thanks for filling in the holes there. Some of the common guys get overlooked. Mind you, that's the first Canvasback Ive heard of this fall. Ed, no Ptarmigan again? Kev, "Four main woodpeckers" hehe, well put! ;D Murray, your words and the pictures Len posted this morning make me look even closer at the gulls! ;D On our way home from Abbotsford this evening the whole family enjoyed watching a Barn Owl hunting along the side of the road in the wind on #2 Rd. Also added Purple Finch that Bruce and Joanne saw recently at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve. 97 species! Im sure we can get to 100 without a problem. Geeze, Ive edited this post a half dozen times! I forgot the Brown-headed Cowbirds in a flock of blackbirds and starlings on Tuesday from Sumas Prairie. That's 98!
