On Sunday, June 8/08, I saw a bird that looked like a Baltimore Oriole in my back yard in South Surrey. Has anyone else seen one in this part of the country?

Hi and welcome ejwiens!
A Baltimore Oriole is certainly a possible but rare sighting. Im aware of one record in the Lower Mainland. A small area of northeast BC receives some every summer.
Keep your eyes open and if possible, get a photo. It is certainly a notable sighting to see one! Good eye on spotting it.

Hello ejwiens,
even though this bird breeds in the Peace River, I have heard of only one record recently in the Lower Mainland. A bird was seen two or three years ago at Pitt Polder near Pitt Lake in Pitt Meadows. Hopefully, you get another good look at this bird to verify it. It would be a good record for the area.

Ejwiens, I should have also mentioned that if you cant photograph the bird, you can add supporting details for your sighting by taking careful notes of the field marks you see. I expect this is a male and if you see a black hood, then all the other details you see will be supporting details! I look forward to hearing about any further sightings or information you have. Brent, that's the sighting I was thinking of. Thanks, I was not sure if that was the only one.
