This afternoon at about 1:30 pm we were walking our dog at Delair Park in Abbotsford and observed a small flock of what appeared to be Scrub Jays. I took the dog home and got my camera and returned and the flock was still in the area along the fence line at the south side of the park. I was able to confirm my ID. There were 5 and possibly 6 in the hedge row and trees just outside the fence. They slowly moved toward the west and then flew off across the field. Photos not great, but one is in my Bird checklist. ebird.org/view/checklist/S125006494

Awesome! Probably only a matter of time before one or more shows up at my parents' place.

I would like to get them as my first bird of the year but I would probably have to drive there with my eyes closed. Too late. A Junco just landed on the deck. Darn it!

Nice Neal. I think that's a high count for the Fraser Valley. It sure was a good year for them in the region.
I wondered how well they would do in the cold and they seemed to do fine as there have been a few sightings since.

Third time lucky. I arrived at Delair Park this morning (friday) while it was still not quite fully light and found 3 of them in a Pine tree behind the large baseball diamond. They looked around for acorns and pinecones for about 15 minutes before heading west across the big open farm field. The first two times I was there I suspect I heard them but never got eyes on them. I may have to send my camera and lens in for repair as I have been struggling to get sharp photos the last 6 months even though the lens went in for repair already. 2 Scrub Jays this morning at Delaire Park-10:20 AM. They were south of the ball diamond. It was raining so I left the camera in the car and of course I could have gotten some great shots. They flew southwest.

Stopped at Delair Park on my way back from Langley today and was not disappointed. Scrub Jays are still present and lingering at the south end by the parking lot and south of ball diamond as previously mentioned. I saw at least 2 foraging in the blackberries outside the fence and when I left I believe I saw 4 in one of the trees closer to N. Parallel Road. Can't confirm second number as I was driving but looked very much like a group of Jays in profile Attachments:

I spotted one this morning (Wednesday), it had found a nut and flew off west. Perhaps it went to a row of tall cedar trees to shelter.
