September 2022 Monthly Challenge

September is one of the best months for birding with fall migration in full-swing. What makes this a good month to get lots of species is that many of the warbler and vireo species are still being seen as well as migrant sparrows and shorebirds continue to arrive. Harrison Lake is a super place to see migrants so is Island 22 . There are a lot of birds moving south so any of your favourite sites are worth visiting.

Started the list with species I saw on my hike to Elk Mtn along with a few species elsewhere.

This evening I saw around 400-500 Canada Geese flying. Biggest flock I have seen in months.

Thanks for the additions. Added a few from Cheam Wetlands this morning. A lot of waterfowl are present including Wigeon, Pintail, and Green-winged Teal. Surely would have picked put more if I had my scope. A couple of Eastern Kingbirds are still present and I had a rail near the viewing platform.

There was a pair of Great-horned owls hootin’ it up
near Sardis Library at about 3:30am last night. I happened to be awake and heard them from my bedroom window. It’s amazing what I hear out there during my frequent wakeups, especially during migration season.

I was at Willband Creek park this morning. I found Gadwalls, American Coot, Killdeer, Common Raven, Bewick's Wren and Common Yellowthroat. Lots of traffic noise this morning they are working on some flood damage from last winter on the highway so lots of weird sounds making one re-think what one heard. But bird numbers are noticeably increasing. Lots of bear poop on the trails on the southern portions, fresh and old.
