Checked on things this evening. It was quiet at first but I didn't realize I had already heard him as he had made a couple sounds exactly like a Downy Woodpecker call. It wasn't until he added some more to his song did I catch on. I thought it weird to hear a Downy in deep bush but it wouldn't be the first time. I recorded him making that sound. It will be interesting to compare the spectrogram to a real Downy Woodpecker. I caught glimpses of him but didn't see any food being carried. The fact he's still here sure makes on think he's nested otherwise it stands to reason he'd move around until migration time looking for a mate? Mosquitoes were still annoying; I suspect they were happy to see someone walking as the people riding by on bikes are hard to catch. Enjoyed seeing these two young Willow Flycatcher waiting to be fed. Watchful little fellas they've been well trained by mom and dad. When they saw me watching and waiting for the parents to return they perked up and moved into deeper cover. _0223445 by Geordie LaForge, on Flickr This male Common Yellowthroat was curious. _0223446 by Geordie LaForge, on Flickr

I've gone for a walk a couple times recently and haven't seen or heard a chat here.
