My brother and I went down to Vancouver yesterday afternoon to see what there was to see. It was his first birding trip to the area and he picked up 28 life birds. (A similar trip was only a few years ago for me!) We went to Iona, TFJetty, and Point Roberts. Iona was full of shorebirds, TFJ was almost "duckless", Point Roberts had exciting flybys every minute. Here is the list of ocean type birds: Great Blue Heron Pelagic Cormorant Brandt’s Cormorant Double-crested Cormorant Canada Goose Common Loon Pied-billed Grebe Red-necked Grebe American Coot Greater Scaup Gadwall Northern Shoveler Northern Pintail American Wigeon Mallard Green-winged Teal Common Goldeneye Harlequin Duck Surf Scoter Pigeon Guillemont Rhinocerous Auklet Common Murre Caspian Tern Common Tern Mew Gull Bonaparte’s Gull Glaucous-winged Gull Least Sandpiper Western Sandpiper Bairds Sandpiper Pectoral Sandpiper Semi-palmated Sandpiper Greater Yellowlegs Lesser Yellowlegs Wilson’s Phalarope Long-billed Dowitcher Killdeer Black Turnstone Black Oystercatcher Lesser Yellowlegs at Iona ponds Wilson's Phalarope at Iona ponds Bairds Sandpiper at Iona ponds..correct ID? Caspian Tern at Lighthouse Marine Park Rhino Auklet at Lighthouse Marine Park (about the closest I could get to them..and the Common Murres out there.) Black Turnstone at Lighthouse Marine Park
