The Rotary Peach Creek Trail does not seem to be a heavily birded trail and yet it has a lot birds along it and the Vedder River Trail and the Dike Trail which all parallel it. I mostly go there at this time of the year for the Lazuli Buntings who have established it as a nesting area. Last time I was there I saw a couple females but this time there was 5 or so males singing only. Cedar Waxwing by Nick, on Flickr There are lot of dead upright trees particularly after last years harsh weather. I heard a Pileated Woodpecker off in the trees but I spotted a pair of Northern Flickers who have a nest hole. I watch the changing of the egg sitters for a bit. Hello there! by Nick, on Flickr I was told by one dog walker that they had seen a Mama Common Loon with a lot of babies floating along the creek. I have never seen or heard a Loon in that area but I do see a lot of Common Mergansers on the Vedder River (not so much now as it is running very fast) With the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve nearby it is not surprising to see Great Blue Herons along the creek.
