Hell.o everyone,
I went on a family camping trip to the interior/okanagan area these past few days. The plan is to return later next week and finish up with another short trip. (This time with another birder - my Dad)
I as happy with the amount of birds we saw, since it was not a "purely birding" holiday.
Here is a short summary.
Monday July 2 to Tuesday July 3.
We travelled to Lightning Lake Campground, Manning Park and spent pretty much the entire time around the Spruce Bay area. Birding was excellent. Three-toed Woodpeckers, Pileated Woodpeckers, Red-breasted Woodpeckers, Flicker, Townsend’s, Yellow, Yellow-rumped, and Wilson’s Warblers, Red-breasted Nuthatches, Hermit Thrush, Common Loon, Barrow’s Goldeneye, Spotted Sandpiper, Black Swift, Lincoln, Song, and White-crowned Sparrows, Clark’s Nutcracker, Gray Jay, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Winter Wren, both kinglets, Cedar Waxwing, Swallows, Rufous Hummingbird, etc…..
Pileated Woodpecker at nest hole. Spruce Bay, Manning Park
Clark's Nutcracker, Manning Park
Lincoln's Sparrow
Tuesday July 3 PM to Thursday July 5 AM
We spent 2 days in the Oliver/OK Falls area. Highlights were definitely McIntyre Creek Road and White Lake area. White Lake gave me my life SAGE THRASHER, but no Gray Partridge. McIntyre Creek Road had no lifers but I will never forget hearing and seeing over 2 dozen Chukar at the base of the cliffs. Also present nearby were Canyon Wren, Bullock’s Orioles (lots), Western and Eastern Kingbirds, Lewis’ Woodpecker, Western Meadowlark, Lazuli Bunting, Say’s Phoebe, Western Bluebird, American Kestrel, Lark Sparrow, Mourning Dove, California Quail, House Wren, White-throated Swift, Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers, Dusky Flycatcher, Calliope Hummingbird, Red Crossbill, Black-headed Grosbeak, Black-billed Magpie, Spotted Towhee and probably more that I am forgetting right now.
Canyon Wren at 0.1km by Vaseux Cliffs
Lewis' Woodpecker, also at 0.1km mark. They have a next hole at the first tree along the gravel road.
I can't resist pictures of California Quail
Stopped at McKinney Road/Black Sage Road as well for the Bank Swallow colony.
Thursday July 5 PM to Friday July 6 AM
Spent the night at Bromley Rock Provincial Park, before coming home early Friday.
We blessed with hot, but beautiful weather as well.
