John V and I hiked up to the base of the final ridge up Frosty Mtn on May 22. We combined our joint interests of birding-mountaineering to bird Manning Park. We had a pretty decent day with 35 birds to tally. The best bird of the day was the boreal chickadee at the 6000' level in trees. We were impressed most by a couple of spruce grouse displaying and allowing us to approach closely. We missed the townsends solitaire, which I saw later that day but not in Manning Park. Ed
