Saw in eBird that there was a RBME at Rotary Park in Hope, with picture. From the colour of the water I could tell it was in the Coq, so I started checking the river as I headed for the park. From the bridge at the Golf course I could see the subject upstream on a gravel bar, under the railway bridge. Got to the bridge in time to see it leave, laying in the snow I could see it halfway to Thacker Park. It was still there when I got there and got a few pictures. It was preening on a rock, working feathers then sliding off the rock and splashing and diving, and back onto the rock and preen, and back in the water. It repeated this cycle at least six times before flying up to Thacker Park at the creek. I picked it up there, but it didn't stay long, flying off under the bridge upstream out of sight. FValley first. As a bonus I found a American Dipper in Thacker for My monthly count. Saw a Red-Breasted Merganser under the bridge on Kawkawa Lake Rd. I imagine it's the same bird. And again it flew off under the bridge upstream out of sight.
Bristol Slough had 20 Common Merganser and Kawkawa Lake 4, so some birds on the move into Hope area.

Two days ago I was checking out Thacker Park Marsh, it appeared to have more open water than expected, but looking closer there was 4 to 6 inches of water running over the ice. The only open water was close to the dam. I saw a couple of diving ducks but as it was last light and could only say it was a Goldeneye and a Merganser billed ?. On the way home this evening I swept into Thacker and found a Song sparrow, Common Goldeneye and Red-breasted Merganser (and nothing else). ? is this the same RBME that was on the Coq. last year, same time period.
