Happened upon a LEGO at Fishtrap this afternoon. The bird was in a small tree, next to the entrance off Charlotte Avenue. This was a Canada bird for me. Some terrible record shots, due to poor lighting: Lesser goldfinch by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr Lesser goldfinch by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr

Nice work, Joel! So fun to get a surprise like that. Hope others get to enjoy it too. 😊

I was there on the 16th and likely briefly saw the same bird. I had noted several American Goldfinch but I just assumed it was one coming into breeding colors. I recall having a conversation with someone about it but we got interrupted and never got back to it. I assume it has been around for a while as there are bird feeders in the area. I guess it is worth a look again.

This morning around 9:00 a.m. I ran into Larry and John already looking for it. I think Larry spotted it first and I took some crappy record photos. Later after touring the park I came back and ran into Ben who a short while later spotted it and I managed to get a couple decent shots. Thanks for all the help guys and Joel for originally spotting it. Lesser Goldfinch by Nick, on Flickr Lesser Goldfinch by Nick, on Flickr

Nice photos Nick!
There are two now. A female was seen and photographed. Both have flown north but I’m sure they will be back.

I suspected there might be two based on a poor quality photo I got. I am glad you were able to clarify it.

Reviewing my photos later it looks like there could possibly be a third? I tried photographing the female when it appeared the first time, but ended up photographing the wrong one.

Sure looks good and isn’t the same as the female that’s for sure because I followed her when first seen. I think there’s three of them! That’s unreal. One of those times getting a photo of the wrong one turns into the right one more or less? 😂

We popped by after lunch in the rain to get Benny his lifer. We did see all three but they were enjoying the shelter and using the feeder under the big cedar tree. Pretty cool!

The third Lesser Goldfinch has been confirmed as a young male. Bert got a great photo of it and shared it to the Facebook page.

We saw the young male late this morning at the feeder. We talked to the homeowner and thanked her on behalf of us all. She said it's been a couple days since she's noticed them.

Earlier today we stopped by the feeder and the young male was there. We heard him sing as well!
