Just got back from the caribou- sheridan/bridge lake area. Many of the lakes are going ice free- loons arriving back, osprey and mountain bluebirds. On our property- yellow-rumps/mergansers/red-naped sapsuckers/pileated wp/bc and mountain chickadees/juncos/bald eagles/sandhill cranes/marsh wrens/rw & yh blackbirds/ hammonds flycatchers/mallards/ canada geese. In the evening we had 4 common snipes flying over our meadow making their whinning sound. Also a pair of ruffed grouse, with the male in his courtship stance. On the way home stopped at the 70 mile house ponds- wood duck/ green-winged Teal/ring-necked duck/lesser scaup/common goldeneye/bufflehead. Nice weekend to be out.

Gord- I have been going to the caribou for the past 5 years regulary- usually in the months May till Aug. I can see 100-125 species of birds in a weekend within 30 min. of our property. Last year we had a pair of cranes nest along bridge creek (Which our property borders) and another nesting pair on horse lake road. Their already in pairs and close to nesting. We usually see the young in the fields in late June. So they will be laying eggs any day- as the young take 60 days to fledge.
thanks cliff
