The forecast was excellent today so headed off to the Boundary Bay area. The first stop was White Rock Pier. Black Turnstones, Red-throated Loon, and two Long-tailed Ducks were the highlights. It's always a treat observing the scoters near the pier. The next stop was Blackie Spit. Right away I noticed where the water had come up due to the king tide yesterday. A few Brant were in close. I watched for about ten minutes as the eagle plucked the feathers off and the Pintail tried to escape but to no avail. Interesting and a bit disheartening to observe. I didn't see any Short-eared Owls there. I think that's the first time I have been there and there was some snow on the ground.
