I saw some pictures from a few people of an American White Pelican down in the canal. Not sure exactly where but it’s a big bird so shouldn’t be too hard to find if it’s still there today.

Pelican is still there down toward the highway bridge. Go north from Keith Wilson Road at the bridge on the dike towards the highway bridge.

I headed out even before it was fully light this morning to look for this Pelican. I was hoping it had not flown on south yet. I drove north of the Keith Wilson bridge where there were lots of vehicles from fisherman and gulls on sandbars. I returned back to the bridge and drove a short distance down south and spotted it on a bar with a bunch of gulls and no fisherman. The 90 minutes or so that I watched it, it spent it's time mostly preening it's feathers. While the gulls were feeding on salmon it did not. I did slide (not gracefully!) down the side of dike to get a little closer and found that it was not too alarmed by my presence or that of a couple others. Perhaps it had not had enough cause to fear people yet or someone had been feeding it. Nice to see other people had come to check it out while I was there also. Nice shots Nick! Glad you and others saw it. I stopped at lunch time just in time to see it flying. It kept going upstream then turned north perhaps towards the Blue Heron Reserve. It was gaining altitude the whole time.

Soooooo seems it turned around and came back! I saw it early this evening up at the Keith Wilson Bridge and observed it experimenting with eating a sluggish Chum salmon of about 10 lbs in size. It gave up but was actively hunting in some slack water when I left it. Perhaps if it finds a Pink salmon, I could see it getting that smaller salmon (maybe not a male with the hump!!) down but it is at the end of the Pink run so that source won't be available.

No sign of it this morning but spoke to other people from this forum looking for it too. They remarked about the pictures Jamie took.
