Made a trip to Kane Valley today which is just south of Merritt. Not as active as it is in the spring and summer but that was to be expected. It was really quiet on the western half and there was a decent amount of fire damage so that could have been the reason. There were a few smaller birds and the small lakes mainly had a few dabblers and Ring-necked Ducks. The scenery was great with the fall colors. The next stop was Lundbom Lake. A Snow Goose and two Surf Scoters were a pleasant surprise. Also saw my first Rough-legged Hawk of the fall. At Beaver Ranch Flats were numerous Pintails, Shovelers, Wigeons, GW Teal, and Mallards. There were four Lapland Longspurs as well. At the west end of Nicola Lake were four Trumpeter Swans and one American White Pelican. Here is the trip list 43 species Snow Goose Canada Goose Trumpeter Swan Northern Shoveler American Wigeon Mallard Northern Pintail Green-winged Teal Ring-necked Duck Lesser Scaup Surf Scoter Common Merganser Pied-billed Grebe Horned Grebe Red-necked Grebe Western Grebe American Coot Long-billed Dowitcher Common Loon American White Pelican Northern Harrier Sharp-shinned Hawk Bald Eagle Red-tailed Hawk Rough-legged Hawk Belted Kingfisher Northern Flicker Canada Jay Black-billed Magpie Common Raven Black-capped Chickadee Mountain Chickadee Golden-crowned Kinglet Red-breasted Nuthatch European Starling American Robin Evening Grosbeak Pine Siskin Lapland Longspur Dark-eyed Junco White-crowned Sparrow Savannah Sparrow Yellow-rumped Warbler

Thank you for the update about the Kane Valley. I never got there this year and I was sadden to hear that they had fires in that area also. Impressive list of birds that you found on your trip.
