A morning visit to Harrison Lake had all three of the Scoter species seen. Two White-winged males, the male Black and seven Surf. A Eared Grebe was also seen. Might be the earliest fall record for me to see one. Saw my first Mew Gulls of the fall and also scaup but they were too far to ID and did not fly to give a hint with how much white is in the wings.

Fantastic stuff! Thanks for finding that bird. This morning I was scoping the lake and saw 2 Grebes with a group of 5 Surf Scoter. The one appeared much like an Eared, but my teary eyes couldn't be as certain as I'd like before I wrote it as one. But seeing that you had an eared with 5 Scoter, I'll happily tick it

I met Gord in the parking and tagged along with him until he left. I learned a lot about observing from Gord as we watched the lake. I have never birded with anyone so was very pleased to pick up skills. Thanks Gord.
