I went birding at Harrison this morning, which had a few nice surpises. The morning started slow, with nothing in the lagoon, and just a few American Wigeon near the hot spring building. Scoping the lake netted some Common Loon and Red-necked Grebe, along with ducks that were too distant to ID. Along the dike were White-crowned, Savanna, and Lincoln's Sparrow mixed in with a pile of YR Warblers. Checking the lake again, and again, I lucked out finding a beautiful male Black Scoter! The orange knob on the bill was visible to make the ID certain. I called my brother as he needs this Scoter for his life list, and while on the phone, a Sabine's Gull flies by! The black wing-tips, white triangles on wings, coupled with a grayish back and white tail really stood out. I followed the bird as it made it's way further away from me. If I'd been at Greenpoint I probably would have had a better view 😅, but I can't complain I drove to the breakwater to try and see if I could see the Scoter, but I didn't refind it. Also of interest was a Ruddy Duck at Cheam Lake

Great birds Jon. Hoping the weather is somewhat decent in the morning tomorrow so I can check.

Scoter is still present. It’s just west of the marina

I didn't have any luck with the Sabine's Gull. I did see 11 Common Loons, heard one Horned Lark overhead among a flock of Pipits, one female Surf Scoter passed the breakwater, and two Horned Grebes.
