Hello birders,
Carolynn and I chased the two rarities that are being reported in Washington. The first bird we looked for was the Emperor Goose. We saw the bird 1 1/2 miles south of Snohomish, on Highway Washington 9. The bird was seen from a small pulloff, in a field on the west side of the road.
The second bird was an immature King Eider. We saw this bird beside the Semiahmoo Marina in Blaine.
All told, 4 hours of driving, 5 1/2 minutes of birding to find the two birds.
Cheers, Brent Schmor Abbotsford

Good scoops!
Is that emperor goose in the same area as last year? The area sounds familiar.

Gord, I believe the bird last year was just outside of Astoria, Oregon. It seems as if the majority of Emperor Geese sightings come from the Oregon Coast. I have taken a couple of trips down the coast in the winter and when I run into birders I have been told of a few Emperor Geese sightings. I saw two close to Redwood National Park, in December, about 7 years ago.
