Not sure I have the right category,.. I had a pair of Cassin's Finches at a feeder just off our deck, they stayed for a long while, chasing off the Purple/House Finches that come almost daily. I didn't have a camera out on the deck and did not want to scare them off.
Male with red crest, pinkish breast with pale flanks without noticeable streaks. Female has less noticeable face pattern and finer streaks than Purple Finch. Viewed at feeder for long time to decide why they did not look like HOFI or PUFI. Lots of time to review guides.
Do you think the unprecedented hot dry wheather is driving birds off their usual feeding area looking for food/water. We are between Mount Hope and Kawakawa Lake.

Nice find! I know they are occasionally seen in Manning, and Paul had at least one at Ryder Lake. But I think they are "rare enough" to be put in this category Not sure about why they're in your area, and asking them probably won't help
