Hi fellow birders. I just "had to" (!) take my wife to San Diego to catch the cruise ship she'll be on for 11 days but managed to tie in a week of birding the San Diego and Imperial counties. I know this isn't the Fraser Valley but I felt you might like to read about my experience. I managed (with help from the San Diego birding website and two local birders' half day assistance) to find just over 125 species, 11 of which were lifers. Most of these were S. Calif. specialties: Cassin's Kingbird, California Gnatcatcher, Abert's Towhee, Gila Woodpecker, Black-tailed Gnatcatcher, Gambel's Quail, Crissal Thrasher, and Mountain Plover. I also managed to get three overwintering Arizona birds in the San Diego area: Tropical Kingbird, Thick-billed Kingbird and Painted Redstart. If any of you need any leads on where to look for birds in that area, I'd love to help. Now back to birding the lower mainland again. Happy birding, John Vooys, Abbotsford.

A good report to spice up the site! Some cool birds you got there.
One day...
