This morning I paused near Hogan Park in Sumas Prairie to poke around. I heard my first Common Yellowthroat of the spring.
To the north over Sumas Mountain/McKee Peak I noticed quite a few raptors circling over. No doubt heading by on migration. A scope helps quite a bit and in 15 minutes I noted over 25 different birds including Red-tailed Hawk, Northern Harrier, Cooper's Hawk, Bald Eagle, Turkey Vulture, Osprey and Merlin. It might be very interesting to see what else could pass by. It's enjoyable to see any raptor, but we're getting into when Swainson's Hawk could show up and to me that's not a bad place to catch one if it's a favoured spot for migrants to gain more altitude before heading on.
