I took my class on a field trip today to Fort Langley. We stopped at Williams Park (off 232nd) for lunch and a very diligent student (the daughter of one of the members of this website! ) spotted two Barred Owls in a tree above our picnic tables. She knew her teacher enjoyed birds and this find should help her marks In this first picture you can see both owls. Here are 2 zoomed in shots of one of them.

Awesome!!!! Good students you have there, Dave! Some compliments to you as well on the keen eyed little girl! Did you find any pellets on the ground under the tree?

No, we didn't hunt for pellets. I didn't even think of it! They flew off after we viewed them for some time. I guess their instant fame caused them to be a little bashful. (40+ excited kids and adults looking up at them ) It definitely added to the field trip, as they were quite low in the tree. The kids were about 30 feet from the base of the tree and I would estimate they are about 30 feet up the tree, so with some good a2 + b2 = c2 calculations, that's pretty close. Dave
