Thursday when I was in the yard the feeder birds started to kick up a fuss. I figured the Cooper's Hawk was coming by. Turned out to be a young Northern Shrike that flew in and landed in the top of our tall trees. It left but came back about 20 minutes later and landed in our plum tree much to the disgust of the little birds. Jamie was able to see it to add to his yard list as well. 019_1084 by Gord G, on Flickr

Wow! That’s a great yard bird. I’ll keep an eye out for that one.

The shrike returned briefly yesterday. I heard from a neighboring birder that she saw it grab a Pine Siskin from her yard last week. This is about .5 km from us so it's getting around.
