Jamie and I went for a quick look at Sardis Pond this morning. Not far in from the entrance at the southwest corner of the park we heard chickadees. I shared some sage advice to Jamie that chickadee flocks are always worth to check if not just to enjoy the antics of chickadees. However, we quickly noticed something a bit larger in the maples and it turned out to be a Western Tanager! I don't believe I've ever seen one in November before. We saw it find and eat some sort of large insect which was nice to see. 019_0938 by Gord G, on Flickr Most of the geese were out on the fields feeding while we were there. At one point, we heard the birds getting upset and sure enough a raptor was flying over. The resident leucistic crow showed some sandpaper and was the only one of the crows kicking up a fuss to fly up and chase the Red-tail off. 019_0954 by Gord G, on Flickr 019_0955 by Gord G, on Flickr 019_0956 by Gord G, on Flickr
