We went to the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve for an afternoon family walk and enjoyed lots of birds and spawning salmon. From up by the interpretive center I had a Mountain Bluebird female fly past which was very unexpected for the location and, of course, more so the late date. She flew like she was a bit lost. I hoped she would land in one of the low tree tops but ended up heading back in a northerly direction towards the fields and better habitat.
There were two large flocks of Pine Siskins, a White-throated Sparrow at the feeders and a Common Merganser male molting to his more normal colours but looking a bit odd at first glance.
Wow, of course, the Mountain Bluebird was looking for your family, she heard there were bird magnets out there and wondered what they looked like! Interesting Common Merganser, good shots! Deserves a second look!
