I’ve just seen a photo of what looks to be a young Little Blue Heron taken locally today. Still finding out more details on it. Great find!

Yes definitely a Little Blue Heron now that Ive seen larger photos. What a fantastic discovery. There are only two other records for BC so far. 1974 in Abbotsford and 2010 in Kelowna.

Here are some photos Andrea sent me to share. Unfortunately, she captured these on private property and asks for understanding that we say this was in the eastern part of the Fraser Valley. I can respect that despite being keen to see one some day. IMG_7322whitebird by Gord G, on Flickr IMG_7342whitebird-beakopen by Gord G, on Flickr

Wow. Fantastic bird. But... It might have been nicer not to know...

Jon, agreed. Given the type of location how I understand it to be, I don't want to be the guy who brought the crowd. Let's hope it pops up in a public location. So long as it doesn't snow, it's quite a convenient colour.

I was sent this video taken at the Chilliwack River up at the end of Wilson Road which is several kilometers up from the Vedder Road bridge. It's taken with a cell phone so not the best quality but to me it looks very much like the Little Blue Heron? I don't think it's big enough or the right proportions to be a Great Egret or leucistic Great Blue Heron? Weird place for a heron or egret of any kind to have shown up. I've spent a lot of time on that river over the years and seeing a Great Blue much further upstream of the Vedder Bridge was never that common. It was seen there on Oct 8 and I gather it (if the same bird) showed up next on Thanksgiving Day four days later. It was seen regularly up until the 24th when it was brought to our attention.
