So I've noticed that both are still options on eBird. I've started simply selecting American Crow but does anyone know what eBird is planning to do here? I'm assuming the plan is to eliminate NW Crow and to change historical observations to American Crow?
The AOS has lumped them. eBird uses Clements, which isn't getting a taxonomy update this year, so both will still be options.
I'm just continuing to put them as NW.
That said, if they used to be separate species and now they've become 1, don't you think that you should still be able to keep NW on your life list? I guess the hard part is knowing whether you really saw a NW or a hybrid etc.
Ebird also corrects sightings once mergers and splits happen, so, if the proposed change goes through, it would do the changing for you. I'd think continuing with northwestern might be best as that has been convention (even if they are all hybrids... or intergrades).
