I didn't get out birding today but while I was outside with my girls I had a Red-eyed Vireo singing - a pleasant surprise! Only the 3rd time I've had one of these here.

There was one singing near the Mike Allen memorial sign on the Rotary Trail today as well.

How rare are Red-eyeds around Chilliwack and Abbotsford? I'm pretty sure I've heard them regularly at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve, but perhaps I've been lazy in my listening and some of them have been Cassin's. The only ones I have ever heard as REVIs and put eyes on HAVE been REVIs, but often I do just go by ear, since they stay way up there in the leafy wilderness. Thoughts?

REVI is more common than CAVI in my experience. I think Cassin's passes through while Red-eyed breeds in the area. I haven't heard or seen Cassin's Vireo this year, had my first Red-eyed on Saturday.
I could be completely wrong though.
Warbling is the most common of the 3.

Gord would be able to comment better on this but from my experience they aren't rare per se but rather uncommon and local.
A quick search on eBird shows lots of sightings along the Chilliwack river but a bit more scattered elsewhere.

Thanks, Jon and Randy. That does tie in with what I have experienced, so maybe I'm not so far off after all

We also had one at Robertson Elementary in Chilliwack yesterday. That was the first one I’ve noticed in the six years I’ve been teaching there. It must be a good for them.
