Raymond let me know he found a Yellow-breasted Chat on the Rotary Trail about 600m west of the Lickman Road parking lot. I was happily close by on Hopedale looking at the buntings and came over. Nice bird and it’s singing a lot. Look for a sign that says maintained in the memory of Mike Allen. It is just east of that sign.

I just took a look with no luck. I don’t have any time for a more extensive search right now. Hopefully it will stick around for a little while.

I checked it out this afternoon and I did hear it right where Raymond said it was; the Yellow-breasted Chat has a very unique set of calls. But I could not get my eyes or camera on it. I will have to try another day.

I must have just been unlucky today! I was there at 3:15 and just now with no luck. Don't give up! I bet it may stay for a few days at least. The habitat is very nice for them there. We do have one breeding record for them in the Fraser Valley which is quite unusual. Chris and I found a very young fledgling at Island 22 a few years ago. bcbirding.proboards.com/thread/9897/yellow-breasted-chat-island-22Here's the photo I managed this morning. 019_8877 by Gord G, on Flickr Nick, glad you got to see/hear it too today.

We went for a family walk this evening but did not hear or see it. Perhaps it is more of a morning singer? Nice to see Len did hear it today though so it is still around. It was a very nice walk on a sunny evening. The little girl walked over 1km and fussed about the stroller at the end. Not bad for 18 months!

I went back again early this morning as I read they are early risers, then again so are a lot of seniors in Chilliwack! I checked out the location again and I could hear it but not see it again. To make matters harder a Bullock's Oriole was in that same area which made it all very confusing. There was also, 2 Black-headed Grosbeaks, a couple Willow Flycatchers and a number of Cedar Waxwings all greeting the morning. I finally decided to pack it in and on my walk back to the truck I decided to check out if I could see it from the Peach Creek Rotary Trail. I walked and listen until I heard it again and discovered that there was a little offshoot path with a bridge over the creek which allowed me to get down to the creek. The exit on this trail is very much flooded out but I could walk right down to an area where by careful peeking I was finally able to spot it. It does not stay in the same spot too long it seems to be very territorial and takes off after any invaders, but at least I got a few images. Yellow-breasted Chat by Nick, on Flickr

I was there at 830am today. Heard the bird and then saw it briefly doing its aerial dance.

Dian and I heard and saw the Chat from the Rotary Trail at 12 PM. It was on the far side of the opening. We could hear it singing but couldn't see it until Dian picked it out with binoculars. We saw 2 Lazuli Buntings on Peach trail. A House Wren was singing in same location as yesterday. Just past the bridge that Nick described on Peach Trail.

Jamie and I found a break in the showers and went to check on the Chat. We got it right away singing just east of 'Nick's Bridge'. We watched him for a bit popping up and down hoping to see he has a mate. Definitely the best is to walk the Peach Creek Trail which is north of the Lickman Road parking lot and follows the north bank of the spawning channel. 019_8952 by Gord G, on Flickr

We were on our way back from Manning this morning (more on that later) and stopped briefly at Cheam for lunch and bathroom visit. On account of the toilets still being closed this was a very brief visit! But sitting in the car looking out towards the lake I thought I saw a Chat. It was a brief binocular look. By the time I got out of the car with camera it had moved off and never showed again.

Bryan, a promising report for a Chat at Cheam. I've been hoping we'd get one there one day. I'll keep an eye out! Looking forward to your Manning report.
The Chat on the Peach Creek Trail was there again today.

I visited the area where the chat has been seen (some days!) this a.m. (June 10). When I got to the area near the little bridge to the left of the Peach trail, roughly a 20 min. walk from the parking lot, I could hear the chat calling/singing. I wanted to see it as well, so I stayed in the area and it suddenly popped up into a tree close by and so I got great looks of this magnificent bird. John Vooys PS. I then went to Island 22 and found an American Redstart.

Silence prevailed this evening. I guess it really is a morning bird.
