In most cases, we can identify the calls of the birds visiting our backyard. Lately there has been a very strange bird call which we could not identify. The other morning my wife heard the call and saw a Spotted Towhee on the top of our cedar hedge. He made the most awful sounds you could imagine. He must have had laryngitis or some throat abnormality. Perhaps he is the Willie Nelson of songbirds.

hahah Willie Nelson of songbirds. Thanks for the smile. I've heard that now and then too when a bird makes odd sounds. Turns out to be something very common.
