I went for an early morning walk at Cheam Lake. It is always beautiful to get out early even if hard to get out of bed. From the parking lot I could hear Bank Swallows and saw three over the lake near the new viewing platform. From the other viewing platform further out I could see swallows and heard more Bank Swallows. Many more! Conservatively I counted 52. It was not easy to count them with all the flying around. They were also quite actively chasing each other often in groups of three or four. Even from the Ross Road colony in Abbotsford I've never seen so many in the Fraser Valley. I must have been there at the right time when a migrating flock stopped by. 019_8708 by Gord G, on Flickr 019_8689 by Gord G, on Flickr 019_8675 by Gord G, on Flickr Tough to photograph them especially in the low light. This Spotted Sandpiper was easier because it flew by in a straight line 019_8682 by Gord G, on Flickr I did a video of the sight but it doesn't do it much justice. The chattering calls of the Bank Swallows are most easily heard towards the end. youtu.be/AFhRkNQrrfw
