Spotted a male and female Yellow Warbler near the parking lot off Glenmore Rd. along the dyke. I haven't seen Yellow Warblers for a long time, so it was pretty exciting! Also saw a Western Kingbird on the fence post nearby. I don't use Flickr much these days, so if you would like to see photos, here is a link to iNaturalist where I've made a post with photos: www.inaturalist.org/observations/44813413

Thanks for sharing! Both are great sightings. The Yellow Warblers just returned from migration and so did the Western Kingbirds. It's not as easy to find a kingbird around the Fraser Valley though!

First time for me to see the Western Kingbird and Yellow Warbler in the Abbotsford area! Do we also have Lazuli Buntings sometimes?

We do! I've had them in my yard in Abbotsford a number of times actually and there is a breeding pair that usually comes somewhere to North Sumas Prairie O believe. I've never gone to check them out but others here will be able to point you in the direction. Nick and Hank usually post photos when they arrive.

Edit - I just read Nick's post and his Lazuli bunting area sounds like it is being threatened by development...

Very nice images of the Yellow Warblers, I have yet to see any this spring, I got my first Wilson's just yesterday. As far as Lazuli Buntings go, they seem to be spotted in various random spots throughout the Valley as they are passing through. I did have a couple of reliable spots where they may have been breeding but I think those are gone now. Island 22 in Chilliwack has been quite good and hopefully will remain so and Colony Farm in Coquitlam are the only places I can suggest now other than heading into the interior. Having said that I expect them anytime now and hopefully I find a good spot for them again.

Another spot that's pretty good for Lazuli is Jesperson dike in Chilliwack

Edit - I just read Nick's post and his Lazuli bunting area sounds like it is being threatened by development... I talked to a security person and she said the reserve is dumping fill there and it may be a camping area in the future. She said it was too dangerous to walk down the road with trucks going back and forth but the dike is okay.

Thanks for doing that Len, but the best area was the old roadway to the dike, the dike itself was nothing special it was all the interesting species that lived in the area that they are dumping fill in. They are the owners of the property and they have a legal right to do what they want.
