My parents and I went to the old log cabin this past week. It was a little birdier than the last time I was there. Seemed like there were Yellow-rumped warblers everywhere; even foraging on the dock and the breakwater logs at the waterfront. This Red-necked grebe was a year bird for me: Red-necked grebe by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr As was this Townsend's solitaire, which was by the road just north of the cabin: Townsend's solitaire by Joel Schmidt, on Flickr We saw this bird on our way out, on the 30th. He/she seemed to be leading us away from somewhere (a nest perhaps?), as the bird kept taking flight and landing ahead of us every time we drove near it. Eventually it dropped down below the embankment and out of sight. Two other year birds I got were a Hammond's flycatcher (heard only) and an Osprey.
