Today I spotted a Virginia Rail in a bit of open water at the lake. I hope it's finding enough to eat and can hold out until things warm up (soon, we hope!). 019_5468a by Gord G, on Flickr While I was looking at the rail, a Swamp Sparrow "chipped" a couple times near by. It was probably watching me the whole time. It seemed hearty and hale despite the ice and snow. 019_5480a by Gord G, on Flickr

Was this at the South entrance, Gord?

Bert, sorry for that lack of detail. It was at the main entrance at the start of the Loop Trail. You could hear it calling from the parking lot as well.
