Roy, the first looks good for a Glaucous-winged Gull. It's a large-looking gull, wingtips are about the same colour as the rest of the wing and so forth.
I think the second is a young Thayer's Gull (Iceland Gull). It's a petite-looking guy and the wingtips are darker but not strongly black as we might think a Herring Gull might look which would be next in line for determining a species.
