From the CBC today in Agassiz, the lighter individual in the first photo really drew my eye. Second flew in to confuse things... must be too tired, but are these just colourful song sparrows? I thought Lincoln's then started to doubt myself... then Savannah, then I thought they are different then the same species... fresh eyes would help. thanks. I think you have 2 song sparrows there. The lighter one is interesting, maybe a non-typical race for here, or slightly luecistic? Markings look good for song though

Thanks Jon, brain playing tricks. Every once in a while I come across one that just bugs me as not right.

The lighter coloured version is how they look on the Prairies! Maybe a visitor?

Kevin, cool find. Like Burt says, that's the interior species. Would be the Montana ssp. Where abouts did you bump into it?

Kevin, I got to see your confusing sparrow yesterday so it's obviously hanging around. I'm still not convinced it's a Song Sparrow though. Unfortunately I only caught a couple of brief glimpses of it. I've seen Song Sparrows across most of Canada including the prairies, Ontario, and the Maritime's but never one that looked quite like this. As Jon suggested it may be leucistic or some other odd colour morph so hopefully some good pictures can be obtained and it can be carefully scrutinized. Good eye!
