Went to Reifel this morning in hopes of photographing the Northern Goshawk that's been seen recently. No such luck. But it was a good day nonetheless. 42 species including a couple of Virginia Rail.
The real cool event was off the White Rock Pier. A giant school of bait fish, the length of most of the pier, had 1000s of gulls (mostly Glaucous-winged but good numbers of Mew and Bonaparte's), 100s of scoters (no Blacks to be found) and numerous other waterfowl (grebes, loons, cormorants, goldeneyes, etc.). I was hoping for Long-tailed Duck but couldn't find one of them either. There were also about 50 seals and a couple of sea lions entertaining the passersby. Quite the spectacle.
