This morning (9:30 a.m.) I came across a Great Egret on Marion just north of #5 Rd. It was hunting in the ditch along side the road. I wondered if it was the same one which had been hanging out over at Hatzic Lake last month. Great Egret by Nick, on Flickr Great Egret by Nick, on Flickr Great Egret by Nick, on Flickr

The length of black on the tip of the beak matches a shot I got of the Hatzic bird.

Nick, great find!
Len, wonderful detective work on the bird.
Perhaps it will show up on the Abbotsford Christmas Bird Count

In the exact same location again this morning (5 Jan) in the stream right across from exit from Cole Road rest stop. Easily seen from the road.

Good shot, Bert. Good to see it getting his veggies too! Curious as to that fish its caught; it's not immediately obvious to me what species it is and I know most fairly well. Hope it's not yet another odd species introduced to our waterways. Do you have any other shots that show the fish?
Ann, happy you got to see it as well.

Agreed on the shiner.
One never knows what new odd fish will show up. Last year doing some sampling and I caught some odd minnow that clearly had been dumped. Terrible.
