On Sunday while enjoying the activity in the yard I saw a yellow bird down low and I had a hard time getting a look at it. Turned out to be a young male Common Yellowthroat! Far from any wetlands or their usual habitat but I guess on migration anything is possible. 019_3152 by Gord G, on Flickr There has been several Ruby-crowned Kinglets over the last few days as well as a late Yellow Warbler on Saturday in our trees. Also on Saturday was a Varied Thrush which isn't a bird we see in the yard unless its cold and there's snow on the mountains which seems to push them down into the valley. 019_3135 by Gord G, on Flickr 019_3144 by Gord G, on Flickr

Hi Gord We heard the Varied Thrushes several days ago in the wetland and one arrived in our back yard yesterday. The hawks are visiting unfortunately, but we have about 15 Stellars Jays and they continually harass the hawks. It is quite a show.
