On Sept. 10 at Willband I was standing on the south bridge facing east when to my surprise and delight a Virginia rail emerged from the grass about 20 feet away from me. It walked a short distance then caught sight of me on the bridge and scurried back under cover. I lingered for a while hoping it would venture out again but it didn't reveal itself again. It was a lifer!

Janice, congrats on a new bird and a sneaky one at that. I can just picture it spotting you and then making a run for it.

Congrats. I saw one out there earlier this year.
