Earlier this morning I stopped to check a busy muddy field on Chilliwack Central Road with lots of gulls on it. Among them were Killdeer, Common Snipe and a nice surprise of a Pacific Golden Plover. That’s a first for me in the Fraser Valley and far as I know the first documented sighting for the checklist area. I will get some pictures up later. Beautiful bird.
The field was west of Prest Road but before the big piles of sawdust. There’s a convenient pullout on the westbound side of the road right across from the field as the road is a bit busy.

I took a look at about 12:30. No golden plover in sight. There were 17 snipe however, and three smaller shorebirds

No luck later this afternoon either. It is worth checking on tomorrow morning though. Some photos. The bird sure blends in. The primary wing feathers have three projecting where an American Golden Plover, slightly more likely to be seen but also quite rare, has four. 019_2726 by Gord G, on Flickr 019_2731 by Gord G, on Flickr 019_2747 by Gord G, on Flickr 019_2750 by Gord G, on Flickr Image3 by Gord G, on Flickr Wilson's Snipe and American Pipit were plentiful as well. Nick, too bad. From your vantage point they were probably hidden though. Thanks, Bruce and Joanne.

That golden plover blends in so well with the background ... amazing camouflage. Also amazing that you managed some great shots of it. Thank you for the ID pointers. Really like the snip shot too.
