Final part of my Oregon Coast report. We saw six Gray Whales. Hard to get a photo of them. Best one I got.
Other mammals were Elk, Mule Deer, California Ground Squirrel, Sea Lions and Harbor Seals
This seal I caught stretching while resting on a rock
Common Murres
Sea birds feeding
A White Pelican was a nice surprise
A few Brown Pelicans feeding
Wandering Tattler
One of two Whimbrels seen. I thought I would have seen more
Great Egret
Top places visited in no order if anyone is interested
Haystack Rock – Great for viewing nesting seabirds up close and also a chance to see Tufted Puffins. Only place I saw them
Ecola State Park – Excellent hiking opportunities through mature forest.
Sitka Sedge Park – This one is a new park and opened in 2017 I believe. Has a great mixture of habitats.
Fort Stevens Park – Mainly visited site c area where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. Excellent area for shorebirds. Not very busy either which was nice.
Yaquina Head Lighthouse – Tens of thousands of Murres nest on the rocks here and also many other seabirds as well. Good area for whale watching too.
