Hey Guys,
Since moving here from Ontario I've fallen in love with Steller's Jays. I've been trying to get some good photos of them, but I don't really know where some good locations are, where you can get close to them, or where there are lots of them.
If anyone has some suggestions for locations around Abbotsford, or the surrounding area I would love to hear them!

I agree they are a neat bird and I have photographed them many times. But I tend to stumble across them more than anything. In the last week I have heard them at both Mill Lake Park and Fishtrap Creek Park. I encourage you to check out Ebird it tends to be a pretty good resource for finding certain birds. Right now those that nested should be feeding or teaching their young to find food and they tend to travel around. They do love feeders and if you know anyone with feeders those are good areas to stake out. As I think about it if you go to Fishtrap Creek Park and travel to the northeast corner where The Discovery Trail crosses Charlotte St and heads towards McClure I have seen them there a number of times. I suspect one of the homes in that area has feeders.

reedmoss the family and I were visiting Manning today and at Coldstream Campground where we stopped to regroup before heading home there was a Steller's Jay skulking around. If we had time to stick around for sure it would have provided excellent photographic opportunities. It was rather bold and perched in the open (but in shade sadly with bright sky background) often. That reminded me I've seen them at the campground at Chilliwack Lake. No doubt they're being good corvids and taking advantage of easy food sources from campers. I think it could be worthwhile to check on the local campsites, during the week when quieter, to see if you can get lucky.

There are often more than one scavenging around the picnic tables at the parking lot of Westgate at the entrance to Manning Park. They'll pose on your car wing mirror if asked nicely....
