The local paper had an article about the old mine site very near the Barrowtown Pumpstation and the most recent push by the owner to reopen it. This was also the site of a Peregrine nest for many years, although obvious efforts were made to scare it off. I do not know whether it managed to nest there this year. Mining on Sumas Mountain has been getting little support from local government as various attempts have been made to develop others sites. Sumas Mountain is being developed with more homes and parks, there is more and more a push for maintaining the environment and not destroying it. One of the mine sites seems to have had several slides which is concerning for land owners above these mine sites. It is long past time for these sites to be closed. www.abbynews.com/e-editions/?iid=i20190705041454150&&headline=QWJib3RzZm9yZCBOZXdzLCBKdWx5IDUsIDIwMTk=&&doc_id=190705111501-8ee505ec3329fc932a8c652f4a1f24dbNot sure if this link will work but if you go to Abbynews.com and go to e-editions you should be able to access the story.
