I'm looking to get a new pair of binoculars. Am looking at the under $900 range and preferably 10x magnification with diameter >= 42mm.
I've got a pretty good $300 pair, and am looking to get something better, but can't justify getting some $3,000 Swarovskis...
Some that I was looking at: * Vortex Viper * Nikon Monarch 5
Do you guys have any suggestions? What's my best "bang for buck"?
Thanks,

They have served me well for last few years. My wife has the Viper and the difference in clarity is slightly better but she won't let me use them. We used to own Swarovski and they are definitely better- but not $2000 better. The higher you go in power the steadier you have to be. We both use 8 power but we are considered old.

I have Nikon Monarch 10x42 - older ones before there was different levels of them. I have 2 pairs - one is probably 15 years old and one probably closer to 20 years old. My brother also has a newer pair and I bought my parents a pair as well. I think they're great. The only thing that has been an issue is the twistable eyecups cracked and don't work great on one of the pairs. Otherwise they've been fantastic. I hear the Vortex warranty is unbeatable though - Gord can speak further to this.

Vortex hands down in my opinion. The optics are very good and the warranty, as Randy mentioned, amazing. The binoculars and the company have both served me well for many years. If you can, go for the 10x50 while you're still young. 10x42 is ok but the 8mm more light the 50 lets in is nice. To me, 42 goes better with 8 magnification.
I currently have 10x50 Viper ED and a matching scope Viper ED 20-60 x 80mm and have been most pleased.

Thanks for the advice! I've placed an order for some Vipers.
