We were out walking the dog at Crescent Beach, enjoying the sunshine, when a bird flew into a tree by the path. At first I thought it was just an American Robin, but a second glance revealed it wasn't and since I had my camera, snapped a couple pics before it flew away. It turned out to be a Townsend's Solitaire which I had never seen before. Thought I would share my good fortune here... Townsend's Solitaire by Neal, on Flickr Townsend's Solitaire by Neal, on Flickr Thanks to the other birder's I encountered that confirmed the ID.

Good photos, those moments when we catch something unexpected are sometimes the best. I remember my first encounter with one, I was looking for Mountain Bluebirds in the Columbia Valley and one landed on the fence a short distance from me, not what I was looking for but I was happy to see it.
