Not seeing a Ruffed Grouse on the list for April I'll report the one I heard thumping away at Deer Lake on the 24th. It was very close and you could almost feel it as well as hear it. Interestingly, as we were listening to that bird we could hear a Sooty Grouse hooting at the same time but this one was obviously a long way off and up on the ridge above the lake. A Common Yellowthroat, a Song Sparrow, a very early Willow Flycatcher were very noisy in the marsh by the boardwalk. Not sure but I might have had a Swamp Sparrow sighting as well but it dove out of sight before I could confirm the ID. A beautiful place at this time of year.
